Friends,

I ordered a book on Aussie cattlemen a while ago and found it to include quite a lot of interesting information on all sorts of topics discussed here in the past. It covers horsemanship, shoeing of horses and bullocks/oxen, time and distance travelled by Australian explorers, weight carried by them, experiences of Light Horse men with poor quality UP's, practical equipment and so on.

Here is my recomendation:

BIG MOBS
THE STORY OF ASUTRALIAN CATTLEMEN
BY GLEN MCLAREN
FREMANTLE ARTS CENTRE PRESS

ISBN: 978 1 86368 247 3

Hope some of you will enjoy it.

G'day Tom,

It truly is a cracker of a book! Should be taught in our schools as part of the history syllabus. I know of a couple of the characters mentioned.
thanks

Hi Richard,

yeah I enjoyed it very much. It covers all the topics I'm interested in, even the ALH horses and tack. The author seems to know what he's writing about that's sure.

Cheers
