German website on the Armeesattel 25

This appears to be on current long distance riding use of the Armeesattel 25. It has some interesting photographs.

The US canteen is obviously not part of the original equipment.

Note the cage like stirrups. I don't think those are original, and they're a fairly odd looking stirrup.

Yes the stirrup isn't original, the page says it's a Camarque stirrup. Original stirrups are pretty much like the known English stirrup form.

Please use google language tools or babelfish for a rough translation.

If I see more interest in the page I may do a more solid translation but my riding English is a bit rusty. I'm a bit surprised that the ARMEESATTEL 25 is interested by any foreign horsepeople.

The caged stirrup, I think, is the type used in the cattle raising areas of France. If you go thru the back issues of THE WESTERN HORSEMAN I think you will find an article on French "cowboys" with photos of horsemen using these stirrups. The name Camarque reminded me of the article.

Looking at the photo of the disassembled saddle, I noticed the attachment of the girth billets. The attachment is similar to the way the '04 stirrup leather hanger is attached. It seems like it would be easy to make that modification to an '04. That solves the webbing procurement problem and would be stronger.
