Re: The Ft. Riley Slide

Sometimes one can overthink a movement- happens to me all the time. :-)

Just out of curiousity, are the "slides" still in existence at Ft. Riley?

Re: book: In der Kavallerie 1942-1945

Sounds like they were trying to get the "falling off the horse" part out of the way before proceeding with the serious training. A bit unorthodox but it sort of makes sense (I might have a different opionion had it been me). :-)

Re: Christmas Gift Ideas?

I suggested to my wife that a miniature horse would make a great companion for the dogs and help keep the grass trimmed in the back yard. That one didn't go over very well... :D

Re: Christmas Gift Ideas?

You might give these folks a try:

The last time I looked, they seemed to have a big selection of pre-painted figures in all scales. They're not cheap though. I've ordered other stuff from them and the service was good.

Re: 1911 Service Sweater

I believe that Jerry Lee of What Price Glory has plans to reproduce the 1911 Service Sweater.

AEF still owes me a set of the 1912 cotton breeches and tunic and one 1916 shirt. Schipper and WPG are a lot easier to deal with and more responsive to consumer input.

Jim-

GOt your book and basically devoured it! Excellent stuff- you did an excellent job at bringing clarity to something that's been a bit of a mystery, at least for me, for awhile. I also like your systematic examination of the various manuals and training doctrines that the US Army employed in ...

Has anybody read. . .

Pat-

I've read both of Coffman's works on the regular Army and I found them both to be informative and good overview of the Army as both an institution and a society. Definately a must-read first stop for anyone researching this topic (or at least desiring a good overview).
