Hello folks
I live near the site of The WW1 Re mount Depot at Lathom, Ormskirk Lancs, literally thousands of horses and mules passed through to be "broken " to harness etc, how was it done? would I be correct in guessing that like everything else in the British army there is a field manual? help appreciated

Hi You need to read the British Army Manual of Equitation, it was reprinted in 1937. But it is still in print and standard issue to Kings Troop RHA, and the Household Cavalry. The main remount centre was Melton Mowbray, and is still in use, Officers in the first World War were trained at St Johns Wood if they were Artillery, and Woolwich . Officers cavalry were trained at various sites. Horses were broken by remount rider's or rough riders, those under harness by qualified soldiers called driver/riders.

There are some threads on training British remounts up on this forum as well, and you may want to look back through those.Houndtrail wrote:thank you much appreciated
