Re: US Cav Photo - 1912 Experimental Equipment

Here's another photo showing the rifle belt and doughnut ring for the rifle. One can see the handle of the entrenching tool below the trooper's left hand, with picket pin handle. I believe the bayonet (handle near left shoulder) attached to the chest bandolier.

Re: Late 1944 US Cavalry Brigade TO&E (LARGE)

This sounds like they are talking about two different weapons, the Browning machine rifle and the Browning automatic rifle. Can anyone clarify this?

The journal outlined how the machine-rifle out-performed the BAR in part because it had a heavier barrel, and was capable of select-fire. It said ...

WWII Cavalrymen Revisit Camp Lockett, CA

"California's Gold" was a popular, long-running local-interest show hosted by the late Huell Howser, and this segment features a reunion a Camp Lockett CA in San Diego County, where the 10th, 11th and 28th Cavalry regiments were stationed during WWII.

When these shows were put online, I sought out ...

Re: Late 1944 US Cavalry Brigade TO&E (LARGE)

This M1922 is very interesting - I had never heard of it. I've Googled but can only find vague references about it. I suspect it was an experimental project.

Only a few hundred were ever built and the M1922 was removed from service before several years before the Second World War.

Re: Late 1944 US Cavalry Brigade TO&E (LARGE)

Horse cavalry units had never possessed BAR's in their TO&E; it's interesting to read of this late-war TO&E, i.e., to see that it was still the same.

I'm interested in seeing the scans in question, as they are no longer viewable.

US Cav Photo - 1912 Experimental Equipment

I've had this image for a while and thought I'd post it; it's a nice photo of the 8th Cav in Texas and evidently shows some experimental equipment (bandoleers, rifle bucket) which I don't think one sees much in the old photos.

Can't tell if they've got their bayonets...

4th Field Artillery Bn (Pack), 1956

I found this footage on YouTube tonight, and thought I'd post it. It was shot near Camp Hale, Colorado in 1956 and shows the 4th FAB., along its horses and mules. Pack howitzers are seen being loaded on mules. There was another pack unit at Hale or Carson which was the 35th QM Company (Pack). They ...
