Epaulettes - US

I was shown these epaulettes yesterday. I have a faint memory of something similar but simply cannot place them. Obviously, I think, US, and I'm thinking cavalry. What might you guys know about them?

I am including a link to my blog post on these because the photos are so large... http ...

It appears, but I can't tell for certain even in the TIFF version, that the two horsemen on the left are carrying the 1876 carbine...

And here is a photo (from the Library of Congress) of a later period. The rifle may be a Ross (I think) or Pattern 1914.

Re: NWP Stock Saddle Accessories; Mounties basic load.

Richard & DuĊĦan,

Thanks. .45/75! What ever they hit stayed hit!

I'm not terribly familiar with the performance of that cartridge. I wonder what it was like? Allowing that this isn't a shooting forum, I will say that the .45-75 cartridge was developed by Winchester to give .45-70 Govt ...

Re: NWP Stock Saddle Accessories; Mounties basic load.

Good morning one and all,

With regards to NWMP equipment, I happen to have a reproduction 1876 Saddle Ring Carbine (SRC) and thought you might like to know a bit more about it. Some of the fellas who helped me learn about my rifle and the history of the NWMP and associated units are members of the ...

You have to see it in person but it is pretty impressive. You don't see such a nice sculpture at most mosts. Seems there was something at FT Riley but early onset senior citizen's disease clouds my recall of what it was.

I spent nearly 5 years in Korea and have some interest in the subject.

I particularly liked "Fixed Bayonets" and "Men in War". "Pork Chop Hill" is another fairly good movie. I was in "Inchon", yeah on the cutting room floor. If my face ever crosses the screen it must be in a single frame. I doubt ...

I believe it was in "Legends of the Fall" (if I have the title correct) that German Lancers are protrayed in the scene in which Brad Pitt's character's brother is killed. The period is WWI.
