Two pics from Mongolia - once and now:
Here a mounted guard from the nineties,
and here a mounted policeman during Naadam-horserace last year
Both use horses from Mongolia, just the equipment has completely altered.

Re: The Russian advance on the Western Front
If you take a look on average Corpse size of Wehrmacht in 2nd half of WW2 the Kosaken-Kavallerie-Korps wasn't anything exceptional, even if US-'experts' might claim so. Korps-level support units were normally no integral part of the Korps, but assigned on purpose. So you might be surprised as in Hun...

Re: The Russian advance on the Western Front
Please, take a look on organisation and formation of XV. SS-Kosaken-Kavallerie-Korps and tell me where it did not have had Corps-strenght?
And for the blend of armour and horses, just take a look on the organisation of Heer-Kavallerie-Division in late war...

Re: The Russian advance on the Western Front
It is more possible that Manteuffel was simply misstranslated. When he meant "mounted" he surely rather talked about mounted on trucks... as everybody knows Red Army was in 1944/45 well equiped with US-vehicles.

Re: The Russian advance on the Western Front
Well, Westerners can hardly imagine how it really was, when Red Army conquered a territory. As it was usual for them to loot each and everything they could get into their hand. So they were not depending so much on their rear area support. Well, for the civilians in those areas it was a tragedy, not...

Re: Armeesattel 25
Before Packtasche M34 were:
-Packtasche 26
-changed Packtasche a.A. to M26
-Packtasche a.A. introduced in 1920
Both models were used in combination with socalled Hilfspacktaschen from brown breadbag-material. Hilfspacktaschen were introduced and used since 1895.

And here I have found in my book Die Reitkunst der Welt an den Olympischen Spielen 1936 by Gustav Rau, some photos of Baron Takeichi Nishi at the Olympics in Berlin 1936, where he participated with two horses in two equestrian disciplines, the Military with Ascot and Show-Jumping with Uranus. Rittme...
