Does anyone have any opinions on this film? I see that Encore is running it, and I've seen it several times before.

I general like the film, and like the way it incorporates items read throught he view of Brittain Davis. The details of uniforms, etc., generally seem correct to me, but I'm not really very familiar with the Apache Wars.

It left a generally good impression with me tho you can shoot a certain number of holes in anything Hollywood does. I believe it was one of the first big jobs that Riley Flynn, "reenactor coordinator," put together cavalry for. Riley tried very hard to keep his work on projects as "authentic" as possible. He was often successful in convincing production that a more historically correct way was better. Sometimes not. I have friends who worked on the film and they were happy with the look and feel.

This has been running on tv again recently, so I've caught bits and pieces of it again. As noted, I generally like the film, but I'm not all that familiar with the Indian Wars in that region of the country. I need to read up on it. A few questions, therefore:

1. What books on the Indian Wars of the Southwest are recommended here?

2. Is this film generally historically accurate?

3. Related to #2, the film has the Army discharging and disarming the Apache Army scouts that are from the same band as Geronimo after he's been brought in for the last time, and then being shipped off to Florida with the other Apaches of Geronimo's band. Did that actually occur?

One of the very best books on the subject is Dan Thrapp's "Conquest of Apacheria"
