Earlier in this thread I mentioned the Chilean Army's museum has a german rolling kitchen. Originally it was exibited in an inner courtyard, but latter it was transferred to a second floor in an indor exhibit. This museum, that once housed the Military School (officer cadet school) and latter the NCO School, suffered a fire and was reconstructed (the exhibits were saved). The recent earthquake damaged the entrance of the restored building, so the museum is closed for now. Only the entrance seems damaged, however. The insurance payed for the fire so I hope the building's still insured.

The thing that strikes me about this photos is that, if I didn't have the caption, I'd be seriously tempted to wonder if these troops were American Civil War era troops.

Note the disparity of the harness on the horses and the lack of breeching.

I remember seeing a rolling kitchen at a local Military Weekend at the South Devon Railway (Steam) some years ago, I was told it was either German or Austrian, I will find out from our local Military Historical Vehicle Group, who it belongs to and get some pics, I know it was capable of being pulled by a vehicle or horses.

About half way down this site is a great photograph of a rolling kitchen, a Taylor, I think, in use in the 1st Bn/76th Field Artillery Regiment. Note throughout the site numerous images of horses, McClellan saddles, picket lines, etc., in endemic to any horse-drawn field artillery unit of the 1902's and 30's. There is also a great photograph of a full field layout for inspection.

If you open the 86.5mb tiff file, which may take a couple of minutes, you will see an incredible amount of detail, including the contents of the shelves against the far wall, and plumbing for hot and cold running water.

I apologize for straying off topic, but this is a fascninating image.

Note the hand washing trough to the right. We had that same trough when I started school back in the Stone Age.
