Horse patrols are another area of ​​operation within the framework of the operation pk. "Strong Support", which for over a month has been carried out by soldiers of the Territorial Defense Forces in border areas under the state of emergency. Thanks to the use of horses, Lublin territories can support the Border Guard even more effectively.

Excellent mobility in difficult terrain, the possibility of transporting additional equipment, speed of movement, long range, depth of observation and immediate reaction to the threat - these are the main features that decided to direct horse patrols to support the activities of border guards in securing the border with Belarus.

2 The Lublin Brigade of the TD is the first in Territorial Defense Forces to develop a pilot horse use program, incl. for saddle. The program is in line with the idea of ​​using "biology and technology" in the service of protecting the state and citizens. The brigade draws on the experience of other formations of this type, e.g. in Austria or Italy. Now is a great opportunity to check the possibilities of horse patrols in hard-to-reach terrain, such as our eastern border. The first conclusions are very promising.

Horse patrols have been securing the eastern border of the state for two months now. Thanks to the use of horses, Lublin Territorials can support the Border Guard even more effectively. Horses are especially useful in difficult terrain conditions that occur on the border with Belarus.

One of the elements of conducting pk. "Strong Support" are horse patrols in the area of ​​responsibility of the 2nd Lublin Defense Forces Brigade. Initially, in the Lublin region, the project of saddle horses was implemented, i.e. the transport of ammunition and equipment in hard-to-reach areas. Such activities are not new, horses are successfully used even in the largest armies in the world.

The area around the Bug River, the backwaters, is a difficult terrain in which vehicles could not cope. Even quads, not to mention other means of transport. Therefore, decisions were made to develop and test the project of using horses in those conditions.

Considering the nature of the activities carried out, the horse fits them perfectly. First, the horse moves silently. In adventurous terrain, you can move to any place practically imperceptibly and inaudibly, what's more, in a much faster time than other military vehicles. At the same time, the range of operation is not limited by petrol stations. Of course, the next point is the reaction to a dangerous situation, because horses can often warn the rider or react before the human notices the threat. The next important aspect is the depth of observation. A soldier sitting on a horse has a much better view of the terrain. It should also be noted that a horse is 500 kilograms with a temperature of about 38 degrees, so it is a natural heater for the rider.

The situation at the border has shown that the project, which was supposed to end with lapping horses, has evolved in a further direction and can be used in such a variant as at the moment.
