It looks like this could be a pre war photo. The Hussars do not have the field grey or tan cover over the busby and the piping on the uniforms is not subdued, indicating this the pre 1910 uniform. The pre war uniforms were in limited field service in WW1 but you usually at least see a cover worn over the helmet or busby. For hussars in German service the tunic color was an indicator of their regiment and may have been Russian blue, cornflower blue, light blue, grey, black, dark brown, dark red, or poppy red. The scroll on the busby indicates they could be from Regiments 3, 4, 5, 11,12, 13, or 14. It is interesting that they are not carrying lances. The carbines could be KAR 88s but look like KAR 98a models.
