We had a tremendous snowstorm on December 24, so we ended up having a surprise white Christmas. The snow was a gift in itself, as we're enduring a drought.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. And a special Holiday Greeting goes out to those serving overseas, such as SSG. Jackson, who started this thread.

I am sorry it is a little late, but I would like to wish the Forum a very merry EXMAS.
And to those who face the dangers of war, come home safely.

This one is a little late as well, but thought you all would like to know what Christmas mess is like in Bagram, Afghanistan. I don't recall the entire menu but it goes something like this:
roast beef
ham
turkey
sirloin
stuffing
mac & cheese
mashed potatoes
yams
boiled cabbage
greens
assorted fruits
assorted pies
shrimp cocktail
assorted cakes
ice cream
three different types of gravy
mixed nuts
sparkling grape juice (non alcoholic, of course

corn bread
assorted fruit juices and sodas (and, of course, bottled water)
and I can't remember the rest
It's not that bad over here if you're at a main camp. When you get out to the FOBs, that's where it can be bad for the Holidays. I've been fortunate to be here in Bagram for this Christmas, and in Kabul for 2004 (we had lobster tails for that one).
Happy Holidays!

A belated Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, and especially to those "following the guidon" on our behalf.
And, if you get a chance, send a Christmas card to your local ACLU hive.

“It certainly was a sad Christmas. All our dinner spoiled by the sand and the dust was so thick in mess hall that it was impossible to see the tropical Christmas tree, which I had built up out of the cactus....”
(Letter from Boal to Hon. Herbert Parsons, Dec. 26, 1916)
I hope everyone has a more pleasant holiday this year.

Note the cigarettes and cigars on the menu. Different era indeed.
I've heard of oranges being regarded as a Christmas treat in the early 20th Century. Interesting to see them here.

Merry Christmas from Northern Iraq. There is an abundance of food in the DFAC (mess hall for old timers) and it is cold and clear here. There was chicken, ham, roast beef, real turkey, mac and cheese, cornbread stuffing, regular stuffing, green beans, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, prime rib, shrimp, nuts of several kinds, salads, fruits, pies, cakes, cheese cake, cookies, egg nogg, near beer, soft drinks, tea, and coffee. I probably missed at least one thing but rest assured our men and women in uniform are not hungry here today. Life is good. Merry Christmas to you all!
