Merry Christmas to all!
I was too busy to post on Christmas day. Another good thing happens during Christmas week. Winter solstice. The days will get longer. We will be able to ride in the evenings once again.
We live in a little mountain town in central Colorado. On Christmas eve we have a big bonfire in the town park. One of the guys brings his wagon and team to town. He drives "Santa" all around town, stopping at various houses with gifts for the kids. We sit around the fire and sing Christmas carols. Everyone is "carrying something on the hip", so by the end of the evening we are all full of "Christmas spirits". It is a wonderful tradition that I look forward to every year.

Merry Christmas to all! Thanks for the interesting conversations and wonderful fellowship that you all provided over the past year, and here's looking forward to next year
I've included a photo of the assembled group, exhibiting an exhuberant expression of Merryment.
(Okay, it's actually the staff of the 79th Infantry Division at Christmas Dinner, in 1918).

Indeed, with the war just ending, he probably went into town for a little cheer with the boys!

That's what I thought Pat, 45th ID.
Don't attract gunfire. It irritates the people around you.

I just noticed the 45th ID patch on the saddle pad as well. Very nice.
Kelton's son, if I recall correctly, is in the Oklahoman National Guard, which includes the 45th ID, I believe.
I also can't help but note the milliron in the brand. I have a milliron brand also.

Yes, but it's a brigade now, not a division.

Kelton, I'd say your son turned out very well. Any father would be proud.
Now for the horse (which is also a show-stopper) Pardon me for massive naivete, but I don't believe I've seen such a bitting rig before...

Monique:
That appears to be a reproduction Model 1909 US Cavalry bridle used with both bit and bradoon. it was the most commonly used bridle from WW1 until the cavalry dismounted.

Just wanted to be the first to wish everyone a Merry Christmas on Christmas Day! Believe it or not, it is 4:30 in the afternoon here already. Hope everyone has a white Christmas like we did here in Afghanistan!
