Hi,
I get this pack saddle on the La Gleize Military Fair.
It is painted in Fieldgray and overpainted in German sandcolor of 1943 Pattern.
It is marked V 18
What origin is it? Because of the color, I think it is German Army used.
I completed it with two Boxes of the Gebirgsgeschütz 36 and they fit well!
Any Help would be great!
Thank you.

Christian

I have found several of these saddles here in the USA. My understanding is that they are of Swiss Origin.

Grüß Di' Christian,

Horrido! Great find. What you have is originally an Austro-Hungarian design for the Skoda 75mm Mountain Howitzer M. 15, but was used by many countries from World War I through World War II. Your saddle is German and would have been for the Gebirgskanone 15. It's very interesting to see this saddle with a mid-war paint scheme.

There were a couple of different variations of the Skoda saddle. I have one in my collection, but it doesn't have the central pivot adjustment like yours. I'll post some photos later.

Muli vor!

Thank you for the help until now.
While cleaning it up, I found a Mark on the leather
So it is Austrian Made in 1918
Wn means Wien (Vienna) and the Austrian Eagle.
Thats Great!

Servus Christian,

Hervorragend! Wow....interesting to see WWI markings on the leather. There should be some marking on the metal pack saddle somewhere.

Here's my Skoda pack saddle with a couple of Geb.Fahnenschmeidkasten (mountain field forge):
