"Small Horses in Warfare", by Sir Walter Gilbey
This short read (20 minutes) is long on interesting information. Gilbey raised Shire horses, one of the first to establish a breed registry of drafties, so it can't be laid to him that he was biased in favor of good little ones. He was among the most prolific 19th century writers on the horse; and his books went through numerous editions and still contain much value for the modern reader. If the name sounds familiar but you aren't familiar with his books, he earned his fortune purveying wine and distilled spirits.
