In the collection of the Canadian War Museum is this painting by British artist Alfred Munnings who documented the Canadian cavalry in WWI:

Quite the painting. It somehow conveys movement, and perhaps more shockingly, it conveys moving sudden death.

I've had this painting on my computer for years. In fact Philip may have sent it or referred me to it. Munning's use of color, contrasting colors, the colors of death really, strike hard, all the more so when one is familiar with his other works.

He was a great artist. I have a book of paintings he did of fox hunting and he captures the feeling well.
