A new book on cavalry units in the western theater of the American Revolutionary War and in the French and Indian War. The listing on Amazon.com has more information.

The book is almost exclusively based on original research as very little has been published on these units particularly those in the western theater of the American Revolutionary War such as Roger's Light Dragoons, the St. Louis militia cavalry company, the West Florida Royal Foresters, etc.

The sources are extensive and vary by chapter and are listed in the endnotes and bibliography. The following is a general overview. For the FIW war units, a mix of French correspondence and regulations and a mix of correspondence of Stewart, Washington, Bouquet and others and troop returns for the British (provincial) units. For the Spanish units in the ARW, mostly the AGI in Seville, Mezieres letters, Bexar Archives and Missouri Historical Society. For the American units in the ARW, Clark's correspondence, troop returns, pay affidavits, supply requisitions, Virginia archives and legislative documents. For the British provincial units in the ARW a variety of sources, correspondence of Campbell, Chester, and Haldimand (and his papers which contain many letters from others) and various Indian department officers' correspondence, the AGI (again as some British correspondence and records were captured), troop returns, etc. Much of this research was done for the American Revolutionary War in the West book I edited and co-authored with 12 other authors from the US and Spain which was finished in 2020 but held for release until 2022.
