I know that Canadian cavalrymen were issued Colt double action revolvers during the Boer War, but did that remain the case during World War One?

In looking at accounts of the Battle of Moreuil Wood I see that its indicated that some of the fighting was "hand to hand" with "sabers and pistols", which would lead me to believe that they were, but I don't know for sure.

On that, by the way, while I should have been aware of it, the size of that charge, over 1000 horses, is impressive.
