I'm surprised by this pattern of service coat. I would have thought it was obsolete in 1945.

3rd picture down is interesting, looks like the centre horse is saddled with a 1912 UP Saddle, you can clearly see the stitching line about 2" below the cantle on the seat, this is only on the 1912 not the more common 1902 UP still in use today.

SD Jackets were kept for mounted use when BD was introduced, by the bagde he is prob RASC who still had mounted units. Very smartly tuened out saddlery, some form of local show perhaps?

Pack saddles are pack GS not artillery.

The two horses held by the driver with a leg protector on are both wearign draft harness not the PA kit which could be driven, that with the leg protector indicates a ride and drive set up with shafts, prob a GS wagon?

Nice photos, never realised that in 1945 the British army still had horse drawn units deployed in western Europe.

Second photo, left horse, I can be wrong but it looks that this is a German army "S bit" without the curb chain used in a reversed way ! (put backwards in the horses mouth)

Sam, what do your notes say about the second photo down - would I be right in suggesting that the officer on the right hand side of the photo is an American?

Interesting buckle half way along his nearside curb rein.
