Possible Charrette Marocaine (French Army Moroccan Cart)
A friend has found an old single horse cart that looks a bit like the French Army Moroccan Cart mle/1913. The wheels have wooden hubs, as does the mle/13, and 14 spokes. However, the hub does not seem to be the typical French Army pattern. I have a technical drawing of the mle/13 on my web page and ...

Re: German Veterinary Gear
Wish there was more to show. I got three large boxes with the names of German military veterinarians painted on them. The blinders are the only parts of the group that I think have a veterinarian use. There is also a horse covering with good Trains Unit markings that may have been used by a vet but ...

German Veterinary Gear
I recently got a group of German veterinary boxes and horse blinders. My guess is that there is only a veterinary use for a set of full blinders like these. Any thoughts about these?

Re: 1980s Yugoslavian Horse Gas Mask
The mask has two standard chemical protective mask filters for the Yugoslavian soldier's mask. The angle of the image just cuts off the view of the second filter. I have not seen rubberized coverings for the rest of the horse, as with the German WW2 Equine chemical protective equipment for horses ...

1980s Yugoslavian Horse Gas Mask
The Yugoslavian military and the independent nations that came from its dissolution continued the use of horses and mules into the 1991-1995 civil war that tore the country apart. This military continued to develop pack saddles until the 1977 and chemical protective mask for horses and mules until ...

Re: WWI Saddle Production
US Model 1916 Artillery harnessing is very difficult to find. I have only found one grouping of this type in decades of looking. I was able to buy eight complete sets but in a much shorter time I was able to put together the German WW1 Field Artillery Harnessing, WW1 German Foot Artillery Harnessing ...

Re: Period Photos of the 3.2 inch Limber and Gun with horse
I was surprised to find these photos of a Coastal Artillery equipped with 3.2 inch guns on the Mexican border. Couvi your explanation makes sense. I was also surprised to see that the 3.2 inch was still in service with the regular army that late. I had assumed it was only with National Guard units ...

Period Photos of the 3.2 inch Limber and Gun with horse team
Several years ago I restored the M1885 3.2 inch Limber and acquired correct collars and harnessing to equip wheel team horses. In the last few days Dr. Brian Dillon sent me fantastic photos from his Grandfather's unit (61st CAC) on the Mexican border in 1914. They used the 3.2 inch and the M1885 ...

Re: German Hussars on patrol, early World War One.
It looks like this could be a pre war photo. The Hussars do not have the field grey or tan cover over the busby and the piping on the uniforms is not subdued, indicating this the pre 1910 uniform. The pre war uniforms were in limited field service in WW1 but you usually at least see a cover worn ...

French 75mm mle/97, US M1918 Limber, with Saddles & Harness
Over the Christmas holiday, I set up the M1904 Saddles, M1916 Harnessing, with the French 75mm mle/1897 and its US Limber for photos. There are a few breechings missing from this series of photos and the Limber is really the US M1918 Caisson Limber not the US Gun Limber M1918 and well, I am missing ...

I have found a good match to the WW1 Era German Field Grey at Sherwin Williams. This is the code:

Red oxide was also used on all German WW1 Era Artillery and equipment I have worked on. I generally remove the rust, use Ospho (chemically changes any remaining rust to a ...

German 10,5cm lFH 98 Limber
In the last week and a half I nearly completed the restoration work on the 10,5cm lFH 98 Limber. It is made up of original parts found in France, Germany, Poland, and Russia, along with new footboards/trace chain hooks, and arm rest. It has been an eight year restoration project that pulls together ...

The first few photos on this web page show the riveting work on the armrest for the German 10,5cm lFH 1898/09. Until a week ago I just had it put together with bolts.

That is a great question. I do not remember seeing horse harnessing or saddles at the Turkish Army Museum or at the Turkish Artillery School Museum. I collect the Austro-Hungarian and German WW1 and WW2 artillery saddles and harnessing and have never found any with Ottoman/Turkish marks. While ...

German 10,5cm lFH 98 Limber
With the Christmas holiday, I got more time off work to make progress with the restoration of the German Field Artillery 10,5cm lFH 1898/09 Limber. The armrest and foot boards/chain hooks are reproductions based on smaller originals for the 7,7cm lFK 96 n/A as well as technical drawings and photos ...

10,5cm lFH 1898/09 Limber (Protze)
In the last few days I have finally been able to get leave from work and make a bit more progress on the restoration on the German 10,5cm lFH 1898/09 Limber (Protze). The limber box came from France. It survived all these years as a wine cabinet in a Frenchman’s basement. The other parts including ...
