Re: Map of the Fight at Carrizal 21 June 1916 Mexican Expedi
The map is from Morey's account in the Cavalry Journal. Concerning sabres: Steffen's romantic attribution of the Seventh carrying CW designs for sentimental reasons is entirely misleading (as an aside it should be noted that Steffen's wonderful work has been overtaken, in places, by more recent rese...

Re: A Fantastic New Book on the Swords and Sabers of the US
Hi TL, I'm sorry I missed your post until now. I wouldn't change anything Joe has written, but would add that your 1913 dated sabre with such a low serial number is entirely correct in having a tentpole tip on the scabbard. It is likely amongst the earliest made and, although not traceable to a part...

Re: A Fantastic New Book on the Swords and Sabers of the US
Thanks Joe. I'm afraid I did not enquire into practice swords and sabres as I had entirely enough to do with researching the service versions. That said I have seen, informally, several different types of practice swords and sabres. The differences in those I have seen seem mostly concerned with the...

Yes, many of those memorials include the same family name from a second generation. Is this not also true of World War Two?

Re: A November 11 question about rememberance of the Great W
I doubt if there is a family in the nation untouched by the events of WW1.
Every village and hamlet has its memorial beside those in towns and cities.
Remembrance Day has real meaning still.

Re: UCSB Wax Cylinder Audio Archive, the WWI songs
Related to the above, I have always wanted to hear a period recording of the Span-Am song "There'll be a hot time in the old town tonight".
Anyone know where I might do that?
Thanks for any help.

Re: McClellan saddletree dimensional changes
"In the inspection of work the drawings and specifications govern rather than any models or sample." Can't add anything to this discussion here but would remark that this was my understanding concerning the production of swords and sabres in the post 1900 period too. Specifications and dr...

Re: A Fantastic New Book on the Swords and Sabers of the US
Thank you Joe and Pat. I hope you will find it of interest and service.
I used the narrative style where the found documentation would support it.
I find the developmental history of an arm as interesting as any other aspect of it and hope that you will too.
