Re: Christmas Gift Ideas?

I wish for you all, in season, the joy of grandchildren such as I have received.
My latest, a fine healthy little boy, arrived just a little early for Christmas, making my wish list complete and all other presents unnecessary.
Merry Christmas and a very Happy New year to all.

Re: Cavalry uniforms

Hi Kurt, I think we all owe you a big THANK YOU   for taking time to post such an attractive and educational thread. Re: Promotion of Jonathon Wainright (photo).

Thanks Pat.
I look closely at every period photo I encounter and seldom see lanyards in use.
I think the conclusions in the bumped up thread still hold good.

Re: Promotion of Jonathon Wainright (photo).

The lanyard is almost certainly attached to the loop on the butt, but that is not the point of my post. What is unusual is finding photographic evidence of the use of the lanyard at all. Whilst the lanyard was prescribed regulation equipment, photographs showing it in use, in my experience, are much...

Re: Ft Reno, Wyoming

And it's sometimes a shock, in seeing them, to realize what soldiering must have been like. For Ft. Reno, for example, the labor involved in cutting cottonwoods for the fort must have been backbreaking. What is quite astounding is how much was done in building these palisaded forts in such a short ...
