A Horse With Two Town Names
From an older blog from the Smithsonian about General Sheridan's Rienzi/Winchester. http://americanhistory.si.edu/blog/2012/04/the-war-horse-of-the-civil-war.html Of note is the bridle of Winchester. I suspect not his working clothes but the throatlatch is interesting. http://americanhistory.si.edu/...

Greetings, Here near Sacramento regular is priced from $2.39 to $2.69 nearer the S.F. Bay area. Diesel is at $2.45 at the truck stops. The Legislators tried to put in place a cut of 50% in use of diesel and gasoline in the next ten years. The people spoke up but the governor is now going to regulate...

Found this on the US Archives blog http://blogs.archives.gov/prologue/?p=7739 Also in looking through the Truman Library online archive there was a report of when Truman was in France with the artillery he had to send two six horse teams to move the cannons through the mud. That was a lot of power s...

"Untrained horses may have to be used in war; but an untrained driver on an untrained horse is a poor combination for moving a heavy load. At present drivers are untrained, due to lack of horses with which driving can be learned. But before a man can drive well, which involves managing two hors...

Re: German cavalryman shooting
The link did not work for me. I have seen other photos of Germans standing on their horses and shooting. It also sounds like the story described in the book Horse Soldiers by Doug Stanton. The story is of the first US Special Forces and CIA in Afghanistan. It is described as the Northern Alliance tr...

The photo shows me a setup shot. The nostril of the donkey (French Poitou) shows over the human mask.
The description though points out the fallacy of the caption.

Re: Saddle ID, Preparedness Parade
No sighs here! A snug throatlatch will help keep a bridle on. The cheek pieces are loose suggesting the curb would be setting in the proper place should the horse close his mouth. The mouth gaping is from the General riding the snaffle. Maybe he was keeping his horse from rushing off to join the her...
