Kurt,
Thank you so much for sharing another part of your amazing collection.
Especially nice to see that Bandoleer and the '09 holster
Best, George.

Re: The M1883 to M1904 Campaign Hats
John, The price range you quoted 600-1300 depending on condition is about right. The earlier issued 1883 screen vent models would be at the high end. Those early hats issued in black could run higher than the 1300.

Re: The Long Gray Line
Pat,
I agree, amovie well worth watching. If I remember correctly, many scenes in the movie were filmed at the Point. In fact the train station in one of the final scenes is still there. Unfortunatly since 911 the grounds are off limits except by guided bus tours.

M1906 BRIDLE
Rick,
Congratulations on a really nice set. It's nice to actually see the real thing. Very smart idea not not running the straps thru both the standing loops and the buckles. I make it a practice never to fasten any leather straps as they were when new regardless of their condition. When I pick up ...

Tim,
Yes, the saddle cloth is edged in 5/8" russet leather, darkened with age. It is a standard M1908 cloth cover. The body is made of two thicknesses of canvas. The outside layer is tan while the inner layer is a green canvas. Other than the unit markings the piece is unmarked. I would estimate ...

Thanks Pat for posting this photo for me. This is one of my favorite pieces. It is a saddle cloth that started out as as Troop G 3rd Cavalry. With the addition of a machine gun troop to the 3rd, the designation on the cover was changed to 3rd Cavalry Machine gun Troop. I've always thought of it as ...

Rick, Yes, the difference in the two patterns of M1916 stirrups I'm referring to is shape of the sides, straight verses bowed. the 1937 dated stirrup I have is the bowed pattern. I don't know if one of the two variations is earlier or were manufactured during the same time period. I've also seen the ...

Tom, I have a single M1916 Officers Field Stirrup in my collection. The bottom of the tread is stamped J.Q.M.D. over 1937. To the right of 1937 is stamped U.S. and to the left N.S. There were two variations that I am aware of. Mine is identical to the one pictured in Dorseys book on page 129, fig.5 ...
