Pat,
Your analysis of the Spanish "situation" is the best I ever read!! I suspected things were as you described, but, was never able to see all the pieces put together.
The fact about the Communists forcing out the other leftists was entirely new to me. My take on the Repuplicans was ,that they ...

Sounds like there might be some interest in Ben Grierson. I did a quick look thru my library and come up with the following magazine articles:
- CIVIL WAR TIMES, Feb 1996 by Bruce Dinges
- CIVIL WAR TIMES ILLUSTRATED, Jan. 1965, by none other than D. Alexander Brown
The following books cover the ...

The book was actually first published in 1951,(found that in the fine print just now) my edition is 1981, but, for some reason CIVIL WAR ILLUSTRATED or MORNINGSIDE reviewed it or reprinted it during 2007. I add it to my "booklist" and my son got it for me for Christmas.

GRIERSON'S RAID

Just got the book GRIERSON'S RAID by D.Alexander Brown. Has any one read it? Does this author know what he is talking about? The first chapter has so much mis-information I'm wondering if the book is worth the time.
Examples: not only does he repeat all the tired canards about U.S. vs C.S. cavalry ...

Actually the jeep I had was an M38A1 And I've since sold it.
I got on the film by merely riding around in Daryl Bensinger's USMC "Mighty Mite" at the National Military Vehicle Assn Show at Camp Indiantown Gap, PA.( if you have the film, Daryl is the big guy driving and I'm the one in the white hat ...

Thanks Jim,
I have the JEEP RESTORATION DVD sold by these people, it is very well done (I'm even in it! tho ever so briefly & by accident I'm sure)
I hoping they got the Cavalry films re-recorded as well as the original production is on the Jeep.

The caged stirrup, I think, is the type used in the cattle raising areas of France. If you go thru the back issues of THE WESTERN HORSEMAN I think you will find an article on French "cowboys" with photos of horsemen using these stirrups. The name Camarque reminded me of the article.

Back in the 1970s we got a load of these "training films" on 16mm film. We showed them at our saddle club meetings (after we found the local school district still had a 16mm projector.)

There is or was a fellow out Philedelpia way who specializes in military manuals etc etc; who offered these films ...
