Here we have Stephen Sabo of the 1st Armored Divisions MP section at Fort Hood in 1952.

The photo is marked on the reverse as Stephen Sabo one of the mounted police at Ft Hood on Army-Air manoeuvres.

Until this photo popped up i had no idea about mounted cops in the States.

The area is called "battery picket" or at least it was in 1941.

It seems he went to Japan and may have served in the 1st Cavalry divisions mounted honour guards, a man by the same name is on the roster for
the 10th Constabulary Horse Platoon in late 47 ...

Worth noting he served with the 129th Cavalry Sqn at Riley.

And now we have the semi dismounted 1st Cavalry Division with the 99th FA Pack on the far right of the shot.

I found these pics on the same hard drive.

This is marked as 252nd Pack Troop,the 252nd would go to Burma with the 124th Cavalry Regiment.

The pack troops alway look a little rugged but this bloke is going the extra mile.

He was a pre war Cavalry man so he may have been Wyoming NG.

He said "aside from seeing some friends die and some good mules die too,the war wasn't too bad,after the depression it wasn't too bad at all"

On India " a terrible country"

On Burma specifically "a magical country"

He also worked for the Forest Service .

On the Phillips saddle is Captain Ralph Hitch.

He was a Wyoming cowboy. In this photo he is wearing levis like a lot of the packers in his unit.

I interviewed Mr Hitch back in 2002 but the i left the dictaphone ...
