Re: They Came to Cordura (the movie).
I don't think those are 1911s, when you blow the pic up, especially the one with the line prepping for Charge quite a few revolvers are visible. So what were they?

Re: A Texas Game Warden
I am very saddened to inform everyone that Mike passed away yesterday(19JAN2009) while fishing in the Bay near Port Isabel,Tx. He died doing what he loved best, fishing. He will be missed by many and the loss to the Law Enforcement world is great.

A Texas Game Warden
I highly recommend this book, I know this author and was priviledged to see the manuscript. Mike is a true Texas Lawman and has sat a saddle a few times. I don't think it is actually available for sale today but it is coming.

Re: Riding and physical fitness
I work out daily, and stay in good shape, I can still pass the PT test so I guess I'm doing ok. But since I have been on the Border I have not sat a horse in over 8 mos. There has never been a doubt in my mind of the value in riding towards physical conditioning and Iam feeling the loss of what ridi...

Longeing the Rider for the Perfect Seat
I have just received my copy of "Longeing The Rider For A Perfect Seat" by Society Member Linda Benedik. I have only had a chance to glance over it but I can see this is a masterpiece of work on the subject at hand. Man if only she had written this years ago, but we have it now. If you are...

One thing though, when Ney charged the Squares he did so at the trot, not a run or gallop as it is depicted. More than one surviving Officer had complained for quite some time on the need to charge at the gallop and not the trot. The Brits in the squares were complimentary towards the French Cavalry...

Pat, A bit off of the subject but the Army is increasing the age limits for re-entry into the 40's. The average age on my Team is in the mid forties and we won the CG's Challenge Cup this year. ( It wasn't easy though) But most US men in their forties are far too out of shape to attempt military end...

When those memorials and the thousands like them were dedicated the appreciation for those who they remember and represent easily fades. How often do we all drive past a Courthouse or Town Square and take for granted these tributes. When we read/study the actions these troops were engaged in these s...

Usually the horses a$$ is at the rear, must be a La. cross bred. During Katrina my Squad was posted at the main entrance to the Dallas Convention Center (DCC) where we received about 45% of the Superdome/NO Convention center evacuaees. 9 out of 10 were in favor of Nagin being arrested then. Jim has taken an extremely complex subject that is scattered through history, and turned it into the most comprehensive and sensible explanation of Military Horsemanship/Horsemastership I have ever read. This is a must have book for collectors of the art of military riding and for serious students o...
