Email regarding General Harry D. Chamberlin

I need help: several years ago, in connection with the biography of Brig. Gen. Harry D. Chamberlin that I am finishing, a gentleman and I engaged in a short email conversation regarding the man's mother. I cannot locate the emails in my files, the email rosters of two email accounts, and anywhere el...

Re-print of Chamberlin's Training Hunters, Jumpers, and Hacks.

I have written a new introduction to General Chamberlin's classic work Training Hunters, Jumpers, and Hacks. Xenophon Publishing just released the new edition. The introduction provides a foretaste of what the reader will find in my soon- to- be published biography of the General entitled "Gene...

Re: WWII Ft. Riley

My father was in the same barracks and the same horsemanship class as Oleg Cassini, Pat DiCicco, Turk Greenough, and Henry Morgenthau III. He made riding instructor the same time Oleg Cassini did. He often spoke of how beautiful Oleg's wife, Gene Tierney was and also commented on Gloria Vanderbilt D...

Biography of Brig. General Harry D. Chamberlin

After 14 years of on and off research and writing, the death of one publisher rep, and then finding a new publisher, I have completed a biography of Gen. Harry D. Chamberlin. The help over the years of members of The Military Horse such as Col. Lou DiMarco, Ron Smith and so many others as well as of...

Re: 1st Cavalry Division,remount in 1945

My dad saw these troopers on Leyte and also saw the photos...as I recall, they were published in Stars and Stripes. It is of the horses found and then used on Leyte in 1944. Having been on Leyte at that time as a Sgt. G Troop, 5th Cavalry, he recalled seeing some of these horses and troopers. The mu...

Re: 1920 Cavalry Footage - Modern Centaur

I am pretty sure this footage displays the Italian Cavalry since in the 1920's, the French Cavalry still held onto its more upright and even behind the vertical upper body position...in fact, according to Col. Albert Phillips who designed the Phillips Officer's Field Saddle, the French remained more...

Brig. Gen. Harry Dwight Chamberlin

I am finishing over 4 years of research and writing on a biography of Harry D. Chamberlin. I have seen a short span of newsreel footage showing part of his 1932 Olympic Stadium Jumping ride in which he won the Silver Medal. I suspect (hope) that the US Army Signal Corps might have filmed Chamberlin'...

Re: Film: The Story of the US Cavalry

Yes, actually this is the version I once had. If you go to 17:46 you will see the landing at Los Negros and then at Leyte...when the movie gets to the first film clip showing a group of troopers actually in a landing craft, you will see my father: he is second from the right. They are going into Los...

Re: Gen. Harry Disston

Harry Disston, Gen. Disston wrote two books on equestrian matters. One comprised a dictionary of equestrian and cavalry terms authored for young people. I will have to search through my things to find the two titles. (I moved recently but have both books packed away in boxes.) After the General pass...

Re: Barbara Fox discusses George Morris.

I agree with Barbara. I took a Morris clinic years ago. Morris acts like an jerk. Regarding the crest release being for everyone except the well experienced and accomplished rider: my father said "hogwash" also...and he served as an instructor at Riley. His view: you were not ready to jump...
