Have one book on white captives during the post Civil War Indian wars to read for a review. I am reading "Custer Fell Here" by Sandy Barnard that is a compilation of historic and modern photos of the Little Big Horn. Since I know Sandy I thought I would read just in case he asks. I am also...

On the topic of WWI, I noticed an advertisement for a new WWI museum in Kansas City. I recently visited the "Arabia" steamboat museum in KC and would have gone to WWI museum had I but known. Anyone visited the museum?

Indian War Veterans

Jerry Greene has a new book published by Savas Beatie called Indian War Veterans. It is a compilation of veteran's accounts as published in "Winners of the West" years ago. Over half the narratives are related to the wars on the northern plains. Jerry gives a history of Indian Wars veteran...

I bought it several years ago, I think at Fort Rob. Interesting little book with photos and first person accounts of the holidays in the Old Army. Been awhile since I saw it, must be buried in the library. Glad you reminded me.

Washita Memories

Washita Memories, Eyewitness Views of Custer's Attack on Black Kettle's Village by Richard Hardorff from OU Press. Hardorff has produced several volumes of material compiled from eyewitness accounts of the Battle of the Little Big Horn. Now, he has turned his attention to the Washita. Since I have a...

My wife's uncle, recently deceased, won a silver star during the Bulge. His boys would tell me not to bring up the subject of the war as it unduly upset. I never had to bring it up as he always volunteered stories. I suppose as a historian and "outsider" he felt ok with telling me. Some we...

It left a generally good impression with me tho you can shoot a certain number of holes in anything Hollywood does. I believe it was one of the first big jobs that Riley Flynn, "reenactor coordinator," put together cavalry for. Riley tried very hard to keep his work on projects as "au...

Seems there was one about the air war that is deemed a classic but the name eludes me at this moment.

Most people who I have talked with who know the mining era, etc. think the look and feel is better than usual. Hollywood will always opt for a story told over historical accuracy. NOBODY believes they swore that much. I have only watched parts of a couple of episodes and could not take the over the ...

As a side note, I was in the Grierson quarters at Fort Gibson, I.T. last Saturday. The COQ was built in 1867 and she was the first to live in it. It is an impressive, 2 story stone building in relatively good shape. Must have been the best in the I.T. at that time. The current owners live in it and ...

I got my copy of your book yesterday. Amazing compilation. Looks like the last word on the subject. I was looking at it when a visitor came up and wanted to buy it. I told him it was the site's library copy and how he could order one. Thanks for the mention but when you reprint you might take the Na...

The African American 25th Inf. tested the bicycle on a march from Missoula Montana to St. Louis in 1897. There is a PBS video "The Bicycle Corps" and a book or two on the subject.

The review may appear in Nebraska History magazine published by that historical society sometime in '05. My review does not have to be in until March 1. I left the book at work but I remember that the company that was mounted on the Indian ponies was posted in a position to block an avenue of escape...

"The First Sioux War"

I have been reading a book to review for "Nebraska History." It is "The First Sioux War, The Grattan Fight and Blue Water Creek 1854-1856" by Paul N. Beck from University Press of America, 2004. There seems to be more interest in pre Civil War Indian War topics. An acquaintance E...

I didn't know there were any creeks in Looeasyana. Thought they was all byooze (hope I spelt that right). For some years, I have been looking for the last Indian/Army fight in OK up west of Alva. It was noted by the Army that it was fought on Turkey Crk. No current resident knows it by that name. It...

Have not heard of a Blue Beaver. Maybe that is what an otter looks like when he gets really cold. Of course, people have a habit of calling a stream one thing and then somebody else changes it. Hard Pull creek just west of this post is now called Sand Creek. The term Sand Creek might be the most com...

The last Radziminski is a couple of miles north of Mt. Park, Ok. and back west. It is just over the mountain from my maternal grandparents farm. I think there were 3 named so as they worked there way up Otter Crk from the Red River. No permanent buildings built. There was a Camp Beach or Fort Otter ...

Couvi,
There is an OHS historical marker on the highway near Radziminski but I have not been to the site. I understand that nothing is left.
