Long recoil doesn't seem appropriate / necessary for

small arms. While getting production variance down so that parts fit and cycling become reliable clearly doesn't hurt, but I think that the Chauchaut was simply a bad design, anyway.

Hi Pat,

The story of Crozier Vs Lewis and the gun, eh? USMC losing its .30-06 Lewis's for the Chauchat on arrival in France.

The BAR was clearly a better weapon than the Hotchkiss for a 'light automatic' the term the Indian army had for its Hotchkiss and VB gusn before WWII.

The Australian Light Horse regiments were never equipped with the Vickers Gun during wwI. Postwar the militia LH units did have a Vickers squadron~troop each.
