Saddle identification

Postby marij » Fri May 08, 2009 5:25 pm

Hi

i just add a saddle to my little collection and would like to know if it is possibly a military saddle. The old guy was telling it was a cavalry saddle, but well...maybe not

There is no marking.
Leather is quite similar to my troopers
Tree is mclellan in style, very high pommel like early saddles, narrow
Tree is rawhide covered, then there is a wool fabric that recover them at the bottom. Iron fittings. There is tubular rivets, original. latigo ties to hold the saddle.
Stirrups are military style with the 2 rivets holding the horizontal bar.

thank you very much for your help

I dont know if my post should be moved as it is not really a up saddle...

well look at what i found:
dont you think it is the exact same tree...

HAGNER-PATENT MODIFIED GRIMSLEY ARTILLERY DRIVER'S SADDLE, CA 1865-1870

look at the bottom of the page. I am almost tempted to remove the leather to see id the tree is marked
