They Came to Cordura (the movie).

Postby Alexander » Sat Jan 15, 2011 9:50 am

I'm not sure that it is the right place to post it, but anyway.
There's a pretty flick "They came to Cordura" filmed in 1959 with Gary Cooper and Rita Hayworth with events took place during the Pershing's Punitive expedition. Cooper played the cavalry Major and there is a few good shots of cavalry in action along with not bad pictorial of equipment and uniform.
By the way with a "few good shots of cavalry in action" there is a few pretty good photos in LIFE magazine which are really the screens from movie and I want to share with one of them with you to warn maybe? To avoid eventual confuse if any of you came upon one of this photos.
Anyway this is good movie, not that great like "Rio Grande" with Duke but good in my opinion.

Here's a shot and couple of links to bigger pictures:

They Came to Cordura has been frequently mentioned here, but I've never actually seen more than a few snippets of it. It does seem to be well regarded.

Pat,

The mounted charge is very well directed, the M1911 is flashing the colours are flying and the cav win the day.
Also I have to point - the snippets from the movie were used in the TV show (correct me if I wrong) "The Big Picture" in the episode "A pictorial history of the U.S. Cavalry" which available free from archives such this http://www.archive.org/details/gov.dod.dimoc.30180
There is b\w exerpts from "...Cordura" and other movies. Also there is a plenty of purely rare archival fragments. Hope you'll like it.

My best regards.

in a lot of the film the negative is flipped so holsters and pouches change sides a fair bit

a great pic,a bit lacklustre in its conclusion but epic in its scale

Randy Steffan was connected somehow to the film and may have been an extra

I don't think those are 1911s, when you blow the pic up, especially the one with the line prepping for Charge quite a few revolvers are visible. So what were they?
