"By off chance, did you save a copy of the Finnish rolling kitchen?"

No Pat, unfortunately I did not.

Sure looks cold. I enjoy the occasional cold weather/snow ride (rarely though we have the opportunity here in North Texas), but to fight and live out in that for a long time...goodness!

Indeed. Just being in that sort of cold is fatiguing.

Roterreiter

Hello :)

Very interesting topic. I am one of the lucky ones who have some horse tack from the 'suomi army'. Sadly, but it don't fits my horse. He's to fat. I think that it's maybe for a horse from a officer or so. There are initials on the saddletree, maybe from the owner. I found out that the suomi army used saddles very similar to russian army saddles and german army saddles. My saddle is a russian i think, it's stamped with kyrillian signs and it's from 1936. Maybe i take some photos in the next days in you are interested...

Hello.
Lot of questions in my head. I read a book about cavalry from 1939-1945. I found there a photo of the Finnish cavalry unit with the signature "the soldiers sitting on haflingers[...]".
And my first question is how they got this horse breed? And is it possible that someone mistake Finnhorse for Haflinger? This two breeds look quite similar.
Here photo collage of both breeds:

And if there were haflingers it was local breeding or they bought them?

Thank you for your help in this matter! :D

Mistaken identity of the horse breed is certainly possible.

It also wouldn't be impossible for the Finns to have imported horses, but given their economic situation at the time, I'd think it far more likely that they'd rely upon what was readily available.

Was this the book by Klaus Richter?
Tyroksyna

No. The book was from polish author. Lots of amazing photos.
