Roy,
Please define that halting step they are marching. And, why aren’t they swinging their arms in typically British Army fashion?

Joe yes this was my old Regiment. On funerals I was the brake man on the gun carriage, to stop the team when stationary.
Couvi it is the traditional march when escorting the funeral carriage, the British Army's Slow March. Carried out on every funeral.

Sorry Couvi I should have said a little more. Because the team are working at a slower pace that of walk, this method of marching was adopted to keep the pace of the team. It works very well and, it helps to add to the circumstances and reverence to the funeral..]

Roy: IN this video, one of the artillerymen reaches under the gun carriage and winds a crank after they stop in front of the cathedral. Is that the brake you were talking about?

Yes that's where the brake is applied. But it does]have another purpose, when applied the team can keep the traces tight and keep them hanging down. There is always the danger that a trace, would get caught up on a horses legs.

It was known for the future that female soldiers would be used. They are just as good , and less male soldiers want to work with horses and the hard work it entails.
