1st Sgt or Sgt Major, I forget which for that era, but he's got a lot of gold on his lower sleeve. Maybe CW vet? Nice chops too.

Ninth Cavalry - numeral on officer saddlecloth says so.
Guidon appears to indicate Troop F.
I don't have any information of duty stations for Ninth Cavalry other than "Nebraska, Wyoming and Utah 1885 to 1898", in the AGO circular showing troop distribution from Jan.1 1866 to June 30 1909.
Perhaps someone has a regimental history?

Handsome looking outfit. While I was bumping along looking at some of the other pictures in the collection, I saw the Military Dept. at the University of Wyoming, 1928 - 1929:

I wonder if the guidon bearer shown went on to a military career?

That's an interesting one. I may separate that one out and start a threat on SATC/ROTC.
