Unusual Collar Disk.

Post by Pat Holscher » Mon Jun 04, 2007 7:41 am

This is a description on the AGM catalog:

<blockquote id="quote"><font size="1" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica" id="quote">quote:<hr height="1" noshade id="quote">
KA135 - WWI 'Secret Picture' US Collar Disc
Secret picture private purchase collar disc appears to be a Type I enlisted disc at first glance: has exterior with "US" insignia; reverse has a swivel hinge and catch which slides open to reveal an interior compartment designed to hold a small photograph. Lacks the small gilt bezel, no picture is present at this time. SB, with nut. II

Anyone ever heard of such a thing?

Pat,
Not an unknown item but not particularly common either. A legitimate candidate for inclusion in a collar disk collection. Rather than "secret" as in espionage, it is a sort of sweetheart item usually containing the picture of a girl friend or wife.

Sort of a neat look at a bygone era.
