Wet plaster gets really hot as it starts to dry. Must have been an odd experience for the horse.

First time I've seen the "center of excellence" moniker used outside the Army.

And I didn't know the Forest Service had a pack animal program of this type in Region 5, which I think includes California.

Apparently this was a nickname for an Army sewing kit at the time.

I watched it as well, and in my view, while it was technically very well done, I'd regard this more as a "based on" version, than a film adaptation of the novel. It departs from the novel quite a bit. Indeed, while I didn't think it was bad, what I'd note that this is the first German film...
